About
Since 2014 guitarist Frederik Leroux and percussionist Kris Vanderstaeten hold improvisation sessions every two weeks, hidden away in the quiet, spacious village of Zichem. Over the years a distinctive sound could ripen that came into being in an unstrained and organic way.
This duo averses strategy and is free from ego and that is the way it sounds. Leroux and Vanderstraeten embark on the path of free improvisation, packed with bitter humour, playful seriousness and experimental frivolity.
Frederik Leroux (°1980, Ghent) is part of a particularly strong generation of contemporary musicians that is not afraid to experiment. Earlier, he released solo recordings on Aspen Edities (‘when the shade is stretched’, Aspen 003).
Kris Vanderstraeten (°1952, Hasselt) was one of the first Belgian musicians who went out into the field of free improvisation in the 70s, inspired by the European free improv-movement in the late 60s. His rich experience translates into a modest but exquisite discography.
