About
Frederik Leroux is a Belgian guitarist, banjoist and composer working in the field of experimental music, both improvised and composed.
Sometimes he plays with other people. In Poor Isa, for instance, an experimental yet lyrical banjo and woodblocks duo with his long-time musical associate Ruben Machtelinckx. Or alongside percussion veteran Kris Vanderstraeten and saxophonist Frans Van Isacker with whom he has been developing and refining a textural, almost soft noise approach to free improvisation.
Sometimes he plays alone. In 2013 he released ‘Banjo’, a free folk exploration for 5-string banjo and tape delay. His first collaboration with Aspen Edities dates back to 2017, when ‘when the shade is stretched’, a split LP with fellow banjoist Ruben Machtelinckx, was released.
On a few occasions, he produced music for theatre. The soundtrack to FC Bergman's ‘The Sheep Song’ was composed and performed by Leroux.
