Some beautiful editions, a promising label night and a band on tour. This is how the first half of 2019 will look like.
Editions
One can only feel bliss with this news: Aspen Edities will issue solo work by Shahzad Ismaily, a wonderfully kaleidoscopic musician who worked with Tom Waits, Marc Ribot, Sam Amidon, Bill Frisell, Laurie Anderson, Bonnie Prince Billy and Lou Reed among others.
A new solo recording by Niels Van Heertum is expected.
Also a 10 inch mini-LP with improvisations by Karl Van Deun is almost ready for print.
Finally guitar and banjo players Ruben Machtelinckx and Frederik Leroux are conspiring for a duo project, about which we’ll be able to tell you more by the end of spring.
Label night
As artist in residence at De Warande (Turnhout, Belgium), Niels Van Heertum initiated an Aspen Label Night. On Saturday 18 May 2019 you can expect multiple performances by Aspen-related musicians, with particular attention for the 2019 editions.
Tour
Last but not least, the first band to have been released on Aspen, Linus + Økland/Van Heertum/Zach, is hitting the road again with music from their last album ‘mono no aware’. Tour dates in March 2019, in Belgium and The Netherlands, will be announced shortly.
